The UK’s telegraph.co.uk reports that interference caused by new mobile networks will cost operators £180 million, the UK Government has announced.
A fund has been set up to collect the money from mobile companies who are bidding for 4G mobile spectrum, Communications Minister Ed Vaizey said today.
The new networks, which are already common in other countries, will allow home broadband speeds to be delivered to mobile phones, but will cause some interference to existing TV signals.
Most users will be able to switch from, for instance, satellite to digital television, or fit a filter. Help will be provided for the elderly or disabled. In extreme cases, which are expected to be very rare, the fund will spend up to £10,000 per household to find a solution.
