MobileBurn.com reports that Fraunhofer IIS, the company behind the MP3 format, today announced two new audio technologies, MPEG-4 HE-AAC v2 and MPEG Surround, for the Android platform.

MPEG-4 HE-AAC v2 is typically used for digital television and internet radio sttreaming over 3G and WiFi. MPEG Surround will bring multi-channel support to devices and runs on top of the HE-AAC codec. The new codecs will enable higher quality sound in applications like Mobile-TV services and audio/video streaming.
